Old Palace Yard, London
for lighting design partnership
For the relighting of this prestigious square we proposed the reinstatement of the decorative lanterns, which had originally been in front of each bay on the west façade of the Houses of Parliament. We carried out extensive research into Charles Barry’s original drawings to ensure that the proportions and details of these lanterns were exactly as he had intended. As part of the design process, to ensure the aesthetic features and spread of light were appropriate, several mock-ups using different light sources were installed. In addition, we recommended that the statues of Richard I and George V were highlighted, using specialist projectors mounted on roof positions above.
